Fundamental Groups of Animals
While there are considerable semantic differences, all animals can be classified into one of these categories. These categories share a few basic characteristics including hibernating or living in arid regions.
Mammals
Mammals are warm-blooded vertebrates that have hair. They nourish their young with milk and have a more highly developed brain than other kinds of animals.

Fish
Fish are an interesting animal. Unlike other animal species, they generally satisfy their oxygen needs underwater without showing themselves on the surface for air--giving us another of many clues that they're fish.
Birds
Birds are vertebrate animals adapted for flight.
From flightless birds to huge ostriches, all types of birds are seen on Earth. Sometimes, larger species no longer have the capacity to soar - but still, have flight feathers! Birds can be seen in all regions, but some of the most famous are giraffes and ducks.
Every aspect of a bird's anatomy stands in service of its capability to fly. The wings are formed to create lift, typified by the progressive edge that is puffier than the airfoil, and which is also coated in feathers that are small to a point. This shape bears no small resemblance to aircraft wings, which are designed to exploit principles observed in birds' whirring flights.
Reptiles
Reptiles are vertebrate animals that are ectothermic. Though this may be widely-accepted knowledge, they’re never referred to as “cold-blooded.” They have scales and produce young by laying eggs or giving birth to live offspring. Certain families, like the snake family, include both an egg-laying parent and a live childbirth-producing parent in some breeds. They account for around 14% of the world's reptilian population.
Amphibians
Amphibians differ from reptiles because they don't have any scales; instead, they have smooth, slimy skin. An amphibian's skin is incredibly moist and allows them to breathe through their surface.
Invertebrates
Invertebrate is any animal that lacks a vertebral column, or backbone. Nearly 90 % of all living animal species are invertebrates.
Bugs are invertebrates that lack vertebrae, the defining characteristic of insects. They share other characteristics that make them bugs.
